The farm il Bio Nonno is located in the heart of the Po Valley in the middle between the provinces of Bologna, Modena and Ferrara. The structure of the farm is equipped with a large, well-kept park, shaded by an old plane tree and equipped with games for children. We have a bike rental to reach, through the bike path, Cento that is the nearest village , or enjoy the surrounding countryside. In the farmhouse are available apartments, spacious and bright, newly renovated, with: equipped kitchen, satellite TV, heating and air conditioning. Are also supplied towels and sheets. The farm was established in the early 2000s with the purchase of the 12-hectare farm which we immediately began converting to organic farming, achieving official certification in 2006 (certified pursuant to EEC Regulation 834/2007 code Ck07 certification body CCPB). Currently I grow pears, apples, peaches and soon two hectares of wine grapes, pignoletto, the white wine of our lands, will go into production. But in order to practice organic production techniques, it is also crucial to take into great consideration the ecosystem in which production takes place, to create an “army of natural defense” for the plants themselves. Therefore, the farm has also a pond and various hedge zones have been introduced and developed to create a basin for beneficial insects: a natural defense barrier from the road and from neighbors practicing traditional agriculture. My interest in organic production techniques has led me to pay more attention to respecting the soil and its fertility and in general to the well-being of plants, by delving into and using biodynamics and agroecology. Experimenting with these techniques, which are even less impactful than organic farming, facinats me and I like to keep an alarm bell ringing of continuous farm improvement.
